Hi,

I've just bought Photoshop CS2 and i cannot use the shape tools without the middle being filled in, this happens with both the marquee tool and shape tool. Instead of gettin a bordered shap, the shape auto fills with the colour selected as the foreground color, this is really annoying as i create make any shapes eith them completely filled in.

Please help

Thanks

If I'm understanding your problem correctly, what you need to do is look in the 'Layers' palette and select the layer with your shape on... underneath 'Opacity' there should be a 'Fill' option – reduce it to 0% and your fill will be gone.

Hope that's of help.

no, if i reduce the opacity to 0% i see the outline of the box, but when i save and re-open the outline is no longer there....

Yep because the outline is just a guide showing you where that shape is.

Click on the layer you want and go to the (F) icon at the bottom of the layers and choose "Stroke". From there you can customize the width and color of the stroke (aka outline).
