I created a layout for a site in Photoshop/Imageready and then sliced it up, put it in Dreamweaver, and checked it out on the web. On my Mac (whether in IE or Safari) it looks great, but when I check it on a PC (using IE), it is all grainy... what gives? Is it just that particular PC and maybe the graphics quality? Or is this something I need to change in Photoshop?

Thanks!

Perhaps you can post the link on here so that you can gather whether the rest of us are having the same problem.

The worst I've even encountered is a color shift between platforms. Sometimes graininess can be caused by a bad monitor, so maybe that's an area to look at - especially if the monitor is older.

Calibrate both monitors. Use sRGB as the color profile, you can even embed the ICC (color) profile when you save.

if you still have a problem try

1) re-exporting all the images as a higher quality jpeg, if the grainyness is less noticable, its most likely cause by the image quality setting

2) look at more monitors, you could just have a sucky monitor.

thanks for the suggestions. this isn't my pc i was checking the site on, it was a pc at work... so i will go through the stuff you suggested and see what the problem is. thanks!!!

Grainy? Sounds like an image type issue...What format did you use for the images (GIF, JPG, PNG)? GIFs are notorious for showing noise added by the compression of an image more than 256 colors. If you are dealing with hi-res images, use JPEG or PNG as your format of choice. Start with high quality settings and if bandwith is an issue you can reduce the quality.

Its probably a bad monitor. The only thing that will vary a bit is the color on an apple display, which you can change. Grainy is a product of image quality, but since you say it looks fine on your apple, then I wouldn't think it was that. My guess is to look at it on a better montior on a PC.
