Photoshop View Mode Glitch

I recently set out to change the view mode in Photoshop CS5.1, that I have on my Macbook Pro, from standard mode to "full screen mode with menu bar." When I set it to that, the only thing that changes is the bar on the project I have open (the one with the red exit circle, yellow minimize circle, and green maximize circle) goes away. Everything else stays the same. I know what the menu bar mode should look like, since I had it on my CS4 version, I have no idea why this glitch would be happening. Thanks, and any help would be much appreciated.
