Photostream question

If I have photo stream enabled on an iPhone and the Photos app in OS X, I know that photo stream will download the photos onto my mac, automatically. My question is, once they're on my mac, will they always be on my mac, or will they get removed from my mac when they're automatically removed from my photo stream.

In short, can I use photo stream as an automatic photo sync from my iPhone to my mac?

You can. Photos will save those forever, even if you remove them from the photo stream or from all your other devices.
