In my battery usage I frequently see "Photos (Background Activity)" showing up. I don't want to turn off iCloud Photo Library because I love my photos being synchronized automatically, but I do want to turn off Photostream because I don't use it. At least I don't think I do. Having Photostream and iCloud photo library both turned on is redundant is it not? Or does iCloud photo library somehow need Photostream in order to work properly?

Would turning Photostream off help battery life since my devices would upload/download photos to only 1 service instead of 2? Also, would "Optimize Storage" for iCloud photo library help with battery life as well? I currently have it set to "Download and Keep Originals."

Oh and also I know this is off topic but I also see "Messages (Background Activity)" a lot. Explanation please?
