Picking up a quad core iMac on release date in-store?

Was just wondering, if I would get it quicker by just going into my nearest apple and picking it up or pre ordering it now?

Maybe someone has previous experience with this on launch of new machines.

when I ordered my Time Capsule it appeared in stores before it arrived at my house. If you got the cash you may as well buy it direct.

most of the smaller Apple stores experience a release delay of 2-3 days before they get things in stock so depending on what you choose for shipping you can decide which would be faster. When I ordered my 24" it only took 3 days to ship.

I think im going to just go into the Apple store in Bull Ring - Birmingham and pick it up with cash! And hope I dont get mugged

Might just ask an apple employee to help me take it to the car, So I can blame them "if" it did get stolen
