I'm still kind of new to Mac. I came over from a long time using Linux as my only desktop. If you are familiar with Linux, I used Digikam, and loved their app. My pictures are already organized in folders according to year/year-month-day it has been that way for 10+ years. No, I'm not going to change. Being new to Mac, I tried iPhoto. I was totally unimpressed, it doesn't keep my order, and it does it's own thing with my pictures. I'm aware that I can keep my folder structure, I tried that as well. iPhoto is just simply too heavy of an app for me, and I can't see using it for what I need. I really like the way Picasa works, it stores a small file in each folder so I don't ever lose any tagging, or things like that. I'm impressed with that. However, Picasa on Mac is also a resource hog. I always used Digikam on Linux, it was light weight, and basically lets me view the pictures, and doesn't mess with my organizational system. Picasa is very much the same. Lyn for Mac is very similar as well, however it cost. Is there any app out there that is lightweight, and will let me look at my pictures in the folder structure that I have, without having to import them? Or that isn't a resource hog? I'm currently sticking to Picasa, but would love an alternative that is quick, and easy.
