Hello,

I need some advice on AppleTV versus DVD.

How does standard definition video for TV Shows and Movies on AppleTV compare to the picture quality of there counterparts on DVD?

Stuff like The A-Team, Incredible HULK and Original Star Trek series?

I know it depends on the individual title and transfer quality, but I'm just wondering about the comparison in general. I'm wondering which is better to buy when extra features are not involved or the price is similar.

Cheers.

SD content, whether purchased from the iTunes store at 720p, 640x480 4:3 or 16:9, looks great on the ATV. It looks nearly indistinguishable from a DVD upscaled on a PS3 or upscaling DVD player (to me anyways). It's not perfect, but darn near close. And the bennefit of not changing discs out and having everything at the click of a remote far, far outweighs any minor differences in quality, if any.

Just so you know, you can encode a DVD with Handbrake as a 720x480 mp4 file... that's the same resolution as the DVD.
