Pictures becoming brighter when they become wallpaper?

Is this normal? When I take any picture from my collection and set it to become my background it becomes noticeably lighter. Colors seem washed out and it is slightly frustrating to see blacks become greys.

Are you sure it's not just the brightness of the screen? If you have autobrightness on, the lock screen will always be at the highest level set. When you unlock, it will determine the light and adjust it.
