I’ve gotten some closeups I was happy with though and that was on a 12 mini. And I got a photo of a cicada in mid flight once that surprised me. It’s actually not as great with portraits because you really need the 2x or more to get a nice portrait that doesn’t distort the shape of faces. So for me that’s the weakness of the non pro camera setup. But I’ve managed to get photos that can almost fit into the macro category.
I gotta say though, the low light ability of my 13 Pro is really impressing me. I’m getting photos I couldn’t quite get on the 12’s and barely on my 12 Pro Max. I like that the actual night mode doesn’t kick in as easily. I’m getting fewer blurry shots.

@svish I need you to get an iPhone 13 Pro or Pro max so you can shoot amazing shots and put that Macro in use! Come on!!

I thought the 13 series got rid of the green dot. ? I use the app Snapseed to try and get rid of them but it doesn’t always work. Sometimes it looks like a big smudge on the photo.

One thing I hated about the 12 series was the lack of contrast which caused many scenes (especially forest landscapes) to lose their sense of depth.
I'm very curious to see if the "Rich Contrast" photographic style from the 13 series can help resolve this issue.
Hoping some of you post some comparison shots between different photographic styles and/or note down what features you had enabled + whether or not you edited the shot in post via some app. ?
