Hi,

This is my first time, so please be gentle....

I've just been having a lazy moring reading through a few of the mac rumor sites when I came across an article over at the register [theregister.co.uk].

http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/39/30360.html

The article is about Piles, a new technology that Apple 'is' implimenting into their new version of os X.

Now I know this is pretty old news at the moment, but what I found really interesting was the comments about Gestures.

This got my brain ticking over a bit...

I've been reading loads at the moment about the possibility of 'new' tablet coming from apple. And there has always been talk of a two button mouse.

For me it would be very unlikely for Apple to just put out a two button mouse... It's just not like them to produce something that 'is like everyone else'. They are forever saying that they won't bring out phones or PDAs because the market is already saturated... And if the PDA market is saturated, I like to know what word they use to describe the mouse market...

So what if... And it's a big what if... They're going for something else, something new, something innovative, something Apple...?

What if these new mini-tablets being described throughout the rumor world are a new type of input device... A kind of Hyper-Wacom if you will.

Alot of high end machines in the graphics and film industries already come with tablets, would it be so strange for apple to produce their own...

Of course this wouldn't be just any old tablet, for it to be Apple it would have to bring something new... What about a build in TFT display like those rediculsly priced Wacoms, then you could have mini menus or shortcuts for a combo of complicated gestures...

Jaguars Ink application already supports limited Gestures for things like copy, paste, delete, etc... What if in Panther these are taken a huge leap forward...

For the most of the time you would barely need to touch your keyboard, if only to enter text... Even then you've got handwritng recognition [don't know about you though, but I find I can type faster than I can write with Ink..]

What if you were now able to control the whole interface with a few strokes of a pen... Wouldn't it be great...

The mouse has been with us since the begining of home computing... Perhaps it's time to finally let it go...

These are just the raw dumpings of my brain.. nothing more...
