So this has bugged me for a while... maybe somebody here knows the answer... when you go to bed at night, if you turn your pillow upside down the bottom side is always cold it seems. I would think that having been up against the mattress all day long it wouldn't be so cold but it is. Anybody know why? Or is it just my pillows?

I think someone's sleeping in your bed during the day :D
Edit: just checked mine and the underside felt warmer. God I'm bored!

Another mystery of the unexplained: can you cry underwater?

Slightly random!

Anyhoo... Your head obviously warms the top side so when you turn it over it seems cooler as it has not been warmed by your hot headedness. :D

It's because the ambient temperature of your room (and thus the items in it) is lower than your body temperature, unless of course you keep your house at 98.6°F. When it's just air, you don't really notice it (room temp!), but when it's a solid object, there's more heat transfer away from your face. That's my layman's explanation anyway.

Nope... it's that way as soon as I crawl into bed... maybe I should test it with a thermometer...

Try it tonight! Not the thermometer... especially if you have somebody else in the bed... that might freak them out... just see if the underside is cold.

Hrmmm... interesting... maybe my mattress is filled with ice.

You can cry underwater. You just won't see the tears of course...

But the top side of the pillow is room temperature and the underside is by far colder. Or maybe I'm not even smart enough for the laymans explanations... which is quite possible.

Oh I see. Well in that case like drlunanerd said, someone is sleeping in your bed during the day.

Haha, could be worse. I once turned my pillow over and it was covered in blood... infact, thats happened twice...

True Story. :)

Well I certainly won't complain about the coldness of the pillow then! I'm not opposed to it being cold. I usually even flip it to the cold side when I go to bed...

lol. Well thats what I did. First one I was in hospital getting a 'gromit' put in my ear to help my hearing, was about 10. Got to the middle of the night, pillow was walm, turned it over... Covered in Blood. Hopefully it was mine.

Second time, was only a few months ago. Had been out with a few friends, one decided to jump on my back (Pissed, of course) and she jumped a bit high, I fell over, she landed on my head, embedding (SP?) it into the road... quite sore. Anyway, didn't remember (Yup, that drunk) got up in the morning with a sore head and turned my pillow over, because the cold goodness makes it all better, and there we go, blood again...

Yup, on the side im not sleeping, of course. That side is always cold. It's way better when its cold. I swap it round sometimes 5 times a night.

I agree. I wish my pillow were always cool. Warm pillows are just like sleeping on a cat in a pillowcase.

But if it's too cold (IE stuffing a freezer pack in there), it's like snuggling up to frosty the snowman and your face will go numb.

I'll never win. :(

Here, Here. It's got to be perfect, which for me normally includes opening and closing the window many times a night (Day)... No wonder im always tired...

Aaahh... You can cuddle up with me. Im not to cold, not too hot. Im just right!

:)

Maybe Apple should get into the pillow business?

"There is just... one more thing... the perfect temperature pillow... the temperature is kept at the appropriate temperature based on your iPods music playlist and by Reality Distortion Field 3.0. It even compensates for the ambient heat of the laptops."

oh, wow.. I'd buy three! :)

I can't explain it, but I much prefer the cool side of the pillow.

I got a good chuckle when my friend described my guitar as being "cooler than the other side of the pillow". It's one of those things I had never consciously thought of until he said it.

I love the cool side, I flip mine over a few times every night. :D

For many years, my son used to sleep with a hot water bottle filled with cold water under his head. It was the only way he could fall asleep.
