Pink and Gray Lines on Time Machine

When you enter time machine there are a bunch of pink and gray lines on the right side of the screen. What do the pink lines mean and what do the gray lines mean. Also how come I have two lines next to eachother that have the same time? I thought Time Machine only took 1 backup at a time.

Also, how would I delete the backups that are on my Internal HD? And every time when Time Machine makes a backup does it make 2? One that says the time on the gray line and another with the same time on the pink line?
