I wonder if more people have had the following problems:
I have had this issue FOUR times in two different, but identical Macs:
The retail version of the SuperDrive (105) is installed in a MDD 1.25 GHz G4 (FW 800) alongside the OEM Combo.
One of the drives (my Dad's) was first pre-installed by a reseller in the lower bay, and didn't make the drive a master, making it not usable at the time. This was later fixed.... (not by the reseller though, but by yours truly).
But, I had also bought the same drive a couple of months ago, installed it in the upper tray, as master and switched the combo to the lower. The OS was able to see it, but the drive was never able to burn a single DVD. Neither could it READ burned DVD-r's. No problems with original DVD's. So, I was able to return the drive, got a new one which did work. Well.... for two weeks.
After the two weeks the new drive had the same issues as the first one I got! Couldn't burn DVD's anymore, also couldn't read burned DVD's either!
I started to ponder: placing the drive in the top bay was possibly creating a heat issue? The DVD's it DID write (3 or 4) were pretty hot coming out of the drive.....

Now, my Dad has the exact same Mac as me. He has the Mac + retail SuperDrive (not built-to-order by Apple) for about 5 months now. He has burned about 100 DVD's succesfully with it. THE DRIVE IS IN THE LOWER BAY, SET TO MASTER!!!
But, suddenly he has the same issues!
No more DVD-R read or write! He phoned the reseller, got a replacement.... SAME ISSUES!!!!
OMG!
So FOUR Pioneer A05 (aka 105 SuperDrive) retail drives, with identical issues. Some right away, one after a couple of weeks, one after a couple of months....

Please:
Can anybody shed some light on this?
Does anybody else have the same drive (retail one), and have no issues???

Tnx guys.
