I have a PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-221L in my 5.1 ( upgradedfrom 4,1 ) dual Quad 2,93Ghz cMP.
Yesterday, suddenly .. it wouldn't burn nor eject . .nothing. I took the drive out and
lo and behold. . the ( broken ) drive belt dropped out.
SOLUTION : Thank God I kept my old Pioneer parrallel drives . .. the drive belt appears to be the same as my current drive. I removed the drive belt from a Pioneer DVR-115SV ( had to disassemble this drive to get at it ).
The best part is that there was no need to completely disassemble my current DVR-221L drive . . I just removed the front drive cover. depressed the lever behind where the little hole is on the front cover usually is with a straightened paper clip . .slid the drive tray out the two pulleys are visible and .. using tweezers first looped the replacement drive belt over the large pulley and the gently stretched it to loop over the adjacent smaller pulley. It fitted like a glove. Of course, prior to installing the drive belt, I cleaned the surfaces of both pulleys with IPA.
The original DVR-221L is back in the Mac Pro and working perfectly.
This " broken drive belt" problem is rare - the first time ever for me but it's nice to know that I didn't have to throw this drive away.
Hope this helps should the occasion arise.
