Pioneer DVR-111D Unable to Burn DVD's

I recently purchased a Pioneer DVR-111D burner to replace the old superdrive in my early dual 2.0 G5...and have had problems burning DVD's in DVD Studio Pro 2.0.5. The program simply ceases to run when the burning phase begins. Strange thing though...I was able to burn files with the OS (10.4.7) burning software. The device appears in my system profiler under ATA. Also in system profiler "Disc Burning" and aside "Burn Support" it states YES (Unsupported). Is this a simple firmware problem? Or am I missing something? Thanks in advance for any help...I'm stumped.
