OMG- I laughed so hard it was ridiculous. What a fun movie! I have not seen something that silly in a very long time. Loved it. Go see it. :)

I remember watching the original Piranha movie made in the 70s when I was young. The cheesiness of it, was quite lulz. Might want to see it, but none of my friends want to go with me, so meh...

Are you THE Lee Kohler?

Anyway, it looks like good fun, at least Ving Rhames and Richard Dreyfus play a part, but the effects might look horrible in 3D, at least the trailer suggested it.

Yes sir, I am that Lee Kohler. I've done a lot more, but they aren't listed. Here's a link to another that isn't there. There are more, but it looks like they've been taken off line.

As John Waters has proven, trash can be art. :)

And you're talking to an actor who has done both. There is nothing wrong with being entertained. To say there is, is to miss out on some of life's more fun moments. ;)

Well dude, I'm in the film industry, and at this point, I just can't take this crap anymore.

I think there's a difference between bad films and films that are intended to parody bad films, which this movie is doing.

I'm involved in a lot of film as well. I am a screener for the Chicago Underground Film Festival and have met and/or worked with some directors I will never forget. I've seen a lot of crap, and whether you like it or not, most of it's crap. That's just the way it is. There will always be fewer Stanley Kubricks than Michael Bays.
Your name happens to coincide with my favorite bathroom appliance/plumbing company.

So you act in gay porn?

Haha! No. :) Don't let the titles fool you. They were gross out comedies that did quite well on the festival circuit. They weren't porn. Read the descriptions. One parodied the Andrew Cunanan/Versace murder and the other was about gay teenage vampires. :) The other was a very serious film about sex addiction. It did really well around the world.

That's the truth. But I swear, once I get out of production and into directing, I will make goddam art.

Titles can be deceiving :D

Hey man, the titles got people in the theaters. Perhaps that's cynical, but it worked. Of course, it also limited them to the festival circuit.

I'm sure it did :D

How'd you get into acting anyways?

I went to school for theater, which ruins anyone's love for acting. ;) After college, I never wanted to do it again. But then I got involved with the festival and met a lot of people in the business, and discovered I liked film acting quite a lot. Independent stuff of course. I don't think I would ever make a career out of it. I don't think I would like it. It would ruin it for me, I believe. I just basically do it when I'm asked and never say no to anything, no matter how small- and I think I've only been paid twice. :)

Especially the last two listed on IMDB I guess?

The short you linked me was strange, and the video game selections, especially the long one, were distracting. Other than that, my eye is more trained to view for production value than for story, I made quite a few shirts myself, but they were never circulated in big circles. YouTube has some of mine under my MR user name, I still like them for their imagery, but the stories, if one could understand them, are often not really well thought out, thus my low capacity for proper judgement of story.

I only saw the trailer to Piranhas 3D and it didn't look like it would be tongue in cheek or had self irony like Farscape, but that might be off-putting in a trailer anyway.

That was one of a series of horror shorts I did for a local production company. It was fun, and ran on Logo for a few years. Oh- and I was the killer, BTW. :)

Piranha is definitely tongue in cheek. Anyway, off to bed. My sordid acting hobby is a topic for another thread. ;)

You know lee, I feel kind of bad that I still haven't managed to watch any of your films yet.

Saw it opening weekend and loved it. It was beautifully self-aware camp turned up to 11. I figured it was just going to be another uninspired remake/reboot but I was thankfully wrong.

I want to watch art, not entertainment ;)
Even art has to be entertaining. ;)

Same here. I was expecting to be severely disappointed. Instead, it was one of the best parodies I've seen in a long time.

Yes. ;)

I used to think that, and there are some Seagal films that still prove it but after watching 8 Legged Freaks no. Just no!
I'd watch it on TV but it's not something I'd go out of my way to see.

I'm afraid it might get edited on TV. It goes pretty far with the crassness, which is why it was so fun. :D
