Um... if you read the article it says they wouldn't live anyway because of it being cold in the river...

It did well to last that long in the Thames to be honest... it's filthy, full of chemicals and full of dead people. (literally)

You certainly wouldn't want to go swimming in it, if the chemicals didn't strip your skin first it looks like the Piranha's will get you....
