I'd be very surprised if anyone could help with this, but here goes........
I have been refurbishing a Powerbook G3 'Pismo' with satisfying results until it came to the DVD-Rom drive SR-8174-C. Decided I should open it up for internal cleaning (something I've done satisfactorily with other Apple desktop and laptop optical drives).
The drive in question was in need of a good clean, and it was whilst re-assembling that I noticed a plastic component remained on the worktable.
This first photo shows the 'mystery' part placed on the drive for illustration purposes:

2nd photo below shows the part in more detail:

The even more frustrating issue is that during all my Apple tear-down/refurb attempts, I always take a number of photos - all of which I've reviewed without seeing anything like the 'mystery' part shown. Logically I'd guess it's associated with the sliding opening/closing mechanism, but it's precise location has me beat.

One additional photo of the mechanism follows, which unfortunately doesn't seem to help further.

Anyone familiar with the internals of this particular DVD-ROM or similar, I'd much appreciate hearing from you.
