pismo power failure... please help

I have a powerbook pismo 400mhz. Suddenly, I can no longer charge my computer or run it with the AC adapter plugged in. So, either the adapter doesn't work or my powerbook is malfunctioning. Which is more likely? Has anybody had this problem? I do have one of the yo-yo adapters, and not one of the box ones that was recalled, by the way. When I plug the adapter in, the battery icon on the screen does not show the lighting bolt/chaging icon. As well, my adapter heats up still (as it always has- I assume this to be normal). Any advice would be great.
