Hey guys

I'm super tempted by this Pitaka MagEZ case for my 15 Pro, but I'm worried about the protection it offers.

I've always used Apple Silicone cases and never had an issue with those, the drops I've had seem to be well tolerated by the Apple Silicone cases.

I'm just wondering if they offer a similar amount of protection, or if the Apple case tends to handle drops better?

If they're similar I'll probably pull the trigger on the Pitaka.

Thanks!

I love my Pitaka cases! With that being said, I definitely think that the silicone would offer more protection in any type of drop. The silicone are thicker and well.....made of silicone which is rubber-like in texture. Also, the sides don't really come up as far as the screen on my 16PM with screen protector on. if it falls on the screen, it will hit the screen protector before it would hit the sides coming up on the pitaka case. I use pitaka because I am very careful with my devices and also have applecare. If you want me to I can take side by side photos of the pitaka and silicone to give you an idea of what I am talking about.

Would love a picture, that would be so amazing... thank you so much!

I do have applecare and i'm generally quite careful, it's just the once in a blue moon drop that happens on a rough surface. Usually if its dropped itll be from a metre onto carpet or something

These should show you what I am talking about. On a side note, I just sent my silicone case back and will just rock the pitaka. After using the camera control between the two, the pitaka works better for me. Since there is a cutout in the pitaka, I can find the camera control quicker with my index finger. The silicone doesn’t have a huge delineation

@Yandawg are you getting any issues with the touch screen not responding because your hand touches the edge of the screen with the Pitaka? I know theres an iOS 18 bug that causes this and when I tried to use the pitaka, it would trigger the bug. I got the black case so its a bit thinner so I am curious if the added thickness of the colored version has a better lip

I haven’t encountered this issue so far.

No issues here with my Pitaka case on my 16 PM. Offers good grip!

I had the exact same Pitaka case on my 15PM, and that's the only case I ever dropped my phone in since iPhone 4 (and dropped twice!). The edge of the case roughed up, screen protector shattered, but the phone was ok. I like the texture but find it slippery, which is (what I think) why I dropped my phone. Could just be coincidence though.

How is the grip on Pitaka vs. Apple Silicon case? Is it comparable? Are Pitaka cases slippery ? Thanks

They are different. If I had to pick one, I think the pitaka has more grip. The silicone is rubbery feeling and has decent grip. The pitaka is textered due to the woven materials. It is not highly textured, but you can feel it if you rub your hand across it.

I appreciate the insight. Which case picks up more lint when in a pocket? That is one of the main reasons I hate the silicon cases and I am very upset that Apple stopped selling leather cases. What used to be a no brainer decision, now I am loosing my mind trying to get a nice case for my 16 Pro.

Yeah, I loved the leather cases. As far as lint, I can’t really say. I haven’t put the silicone one on yet. I am pretty content with the pitaka. About the only time I put the silicone case on is when I am on my jet ski and it is bouncing around inside, or if I know I am gonna be getting really drunk like going on a cruise or something like that…lmao

that is a nice case, all you need to have is a tempered glass screen protector.
if you have that combo, you will be 100% fine

I've dropped phones in the old style (no bottom or top coverage). The case was messed up and there was a single "dent" in the metal (steel) at the top of the phone. I suspect now, a normal drop will just damage the case unless you happen to hit it near the uncovered buttons.
