Pixelmator lags when working with big files.

Like the title says, I'm having lag problems when working with big files. If I work with a file that is around 1mb to 4 mb everything works smoothly, but once I start adding stuff, it becomes laggy.

I have the high end 15in 2011 MBP.

Is anyone experiencing this issue? And is there a way to fix this?
