Pixelmator Photo for iPad today updated to version 1.2, adding Magic Keyboard, trackpad, and mouse support, as well as a few other features. This release comes after the launch of iOS and iPadOS 13.4, which added support for trackpads and mice on iPad.

According to Pixelmator, the new cursor in iPadOS will allow creatives to work "in a whole new way" inside the Pixelmator Photo app. Next month, Apple will launch the new Magic Keyboard with a built-in trackpad, and that accessory will also work with Pixelmator Photo.

Pixelmator Photo 1.2 also introduces Split View and Slide Over support in iPadOS. The company also announced that its machine learning feature "ML Match Colors," which was introduced in Pixelmator Pro, is now available in Pixelmator Photo. This lets users match the look and feel of completely different photos with the help of a machine learning algorithm.

For more information on the update to Pixelmator Photo, be sure to check out the Pixelmator blog.

I've been waiting for what seems like forever for ML Match Colors to come to the iPad. It's a little unintuitive to do on the Mac and it's even hidden (at least, not where you'd expect it to be) on iPadOS, but it works like a charm.

I’ve been using Pixelmator for all my image editing since the original release on Tiger. It’s also the most stable classic app on my OG iPad Mini. I always thought it was the missing piece of iLife and remain amazed Apple didn’t buy it up years ago and then just bundle it with everything.

Got it free on new years day back then. Would happily pay double for what it does.

Its a great app, but I can't for the life of me work out how to adjust the depth on Portrait photos. I've adjusted that in the default Photos app and then gone in to this app to make other adjustments.

Apple's rollout of iPadOS 13.4 has been rather clever. They have rolled out new versions of their own apps, and developers have rapidly added innovative features to their professional apps.

By the time the Smart Keyboard debuts in May, there will be a rich set of software to make the case for that new hardware.

Pixelmator (not Pixelmator Photos) has that sort of thing.

Yeah I know that. I would have thought with as powerful as the iPad is that they could support layers. Heck even SnapSeed which also runs on the iPhone supports layers and masking.

Perhaps in a future version.

Thats what I mean, Pixelmator on iPad has layers. I’ve got both apps and I’m not really sure when I’d be expected to use Pixelmator Photo over Pixelmator. I’m not particularly into photographs so I’m obviously not the core market, I mostly just have them cos I love well made apps!

What I understood so far is that Photo is a competitor to Lightroom and the "normal" one to Photoshop.
