I am new to mac, I have a macbook on 10.4.11 OS
I am unable to install any .pkg files, I tried to install a driver for wacom tablet ( I get the file from wacom website, apple site directed me to there), my laptop cant open the file, it gives no error code neither, it gives no respond no reaction to my click, double click and try to use open with "installer" move. I did check, in my utility dir there is a installer, but I dont know why it cant install/pkg files for me. I also checked crash reporter under log, there is no crash report log for installer.

Same story happens to canon printer driver .pkg file too.

Please help me out ( I also lose the disks went with laptop :( so I may have difficult to reinstall the system)

You are asking the wrong question. You should ask about installing a specific software package. You must understand that not all .pkg files are Installer files. Nearly half are receipt bundles. They are created when you install your app and tell the OS how permission should be set--among other things. Even if you have an Installer package, there is no guarantee that it is compatible with your OS.

So--what specifically are you trying to install?

I downloaded both drivers. Neither appears to have a problem. Your problems must be local to your system. Only you have any idea what is unique about your setup that would prevent these drivers from being installed. My first guess would be that you are not using an administrative account to perform the installations.

I have 1 account set up in my macbook, so I assume it is the admin? :(

I m new to mac :( dont know whats going on there :(

I went to genius bar before regarding the issue, the guy there couldnt help, he didnt even take a look at of my system, after he found I am unable to install the file he ask me to reinstall:( but I lose the disks the system went with

Yes, that would be an admin account.

Troubleshooting this type of issue can be tricky, especially over a forum. Open Console (/Applications/Utilities/Console), then try to open the file. Then check is Console to see if any new messages are in there. They'll be time stamped. Copy the messages and put them in a post here, and be sure to use the code tag so they'll be formatted more nicely (it's the button with the # on it on the toolbar).

Thx for the advice, I tried it. In console log it shows

2009-06-12 22:26:57.897 Installer[297] Unable to load nib file: PagedInstaller, exiting

Is there any way to solve the problem?

I found this old thread where the person had the same type of issue. It does provide a work around to at least be able to open the pkg files, though doesn't provide a solid fix.

This thread suggest trying to run repair permissions and then suggest to do a reinstall, though that doesn't seem to be a option for you.

I came across that error a few other places, but no one ever had an answer other than to reinstall.

thx for the help, since I lose the disks macbook went with, I currently installed a pacifist, later I will see if I can get a leopard system or wait till Sep get Snow leopard OS.

Thx again for all the help, rly appreciate.
