Place for fonts

Wondering where THE folder for fonts should be at. There's a Fonts folder under Macintosh HD, under Users, and under secondary HD. I know I use FontBook to upload the fonts, but where's the ideal folder to keep the fonts so that all apps see them?

Trying to get a font into Final Cut Pro and I wasn't sure which folder to drop it into.

Where are my fonts kept?

For most users Font Book should be the preferred tool for installing, uninstalling and otherwise manage your fonts, though, without worrying too much about where they actually wind up.

If you need a bit more control, I recommend the free Linotype FontExplorer X. Excellent tool at a price that just cannot be beaten...
