Place your bets folks.

Offered for your betting enjoyment today are three options, all relating to the upcoming WWDC keynote.

1. How soon after the forums come back online will the first post asking "where can I buy a copy of Leopard?"

I reckon 20 minutes.

2. How soon after the forums come back online will the first post saying "I'm disappointed with the Mac Pro, I wanted 'x' feature."

I say 1 minute.

3. How many newbies will ask about loading Leopard onto a generic x86 PC?

I say 29.

Roll up folks, place your bets.

Ooh, good call.

1. PowerBook G5s next tuesday
2. iPhone with the PowerBook G5s.
3. iPod video with the iPhone.

3,637 (and many more will be planning to, but will check here beforehand and realise the folly)

1. 15 minutes.

2. 1 minute.

3. A new thread will be started. About 20 will say it.

4. A new thread about how this was the worst keynote (from iGary) will be started.

I would add:

5. How many folks will be disappointed that there are no iPod updates. My guess another thread will be started.

how long before the forums crash once back online? 2.5 minutes.
1 thread created in the process about WWDC and everyone trying to respond.

And how many people will come here asking where they can download the Leopard Beta?

But, for #2, can I pick "As soon as the announcement is made"?

I think you've left out entire genres of posts:
  • "which options should I get on my new ___"
  • "the new ___ sucks" ones (for all new products), with a sub-category of "the graphics on the ___ suck"
  • "who has ordered a ___?"
  • "can I return the ___ I just BTO'd to get a ___?"
  • and, of course, the "who has a new ___" classics.

One minute. And you forgot "If I buy a new Mac today, will it come with Leopard on it?"

Within a minute. Those threads will be similar in number to the "OMG, the new ___ rules!" ones (which I forgot to mention above)

I just know that I'll be reading the aforementioned threads instead of ordering anything.

Last year, Steve mentioned the Developer Transition Kit, and I was done ordering it before it even hit me that I'd just spent $1000 on a loaner. That was redeemed by the iMac exchange deal, but I got lucky. I think I'll sit out this round of buying frenzy.

We completely forgot the "Apple Store is down!!!" threads. They'll likely pop up shortly before the live coverage starts.

That reminds me. As with all major announcements, we get a flow of new members.

We were all once new members, and most new members are great. But... we'll also get, in addition to the product-related questions, tons of "which RAM do I buy", "why can't I use my avatar?", "why can't I create a thread in the Marketplace?", "what's a 601?", etc. posts.

Less. I am sure some crumdugeon has already said it in another post.
