Placement of external drive...

I'm going to get an external "portable" drive as a secondary backup device for my iMac.

I'd like to velcro the drive to the back of the upright leg on the stand of my iMac, as opposed to placing the drive horizontally and flat on a desktop.

Do these portable drives typically care whether they are horizontal or upright?
