Placing Mavericks on Recovery Partition?

I would like to put Mavericks on my recovery partition on my newly arrived iMac. If I presume there is one, how is this possible and therefore I will be able to install it from there on?

When you upgrade to Mavericks, it will also upgrade the recovery partition to Mavericks as well.

Or it will make a new recovery HD if you didn't have one before.

oh ok, I will go with the upgrade route then. I was thinking I might be able to tackle the clean install way as I havent got any information on there at the moment.
