Hypothetical question - can you 'float' SD footage onto HD dimensions, without scaling it, and retain the original SD quality at it's original size? We are creating a spot where we don't want to scale the SD footage, but rather use the HD real estate for other design elements, with the video floated in the middle.

Now, I'm being told that even without scaling the SD footage, there will be quality loss - something about the scan lines - but I would have thought if we were going pixel to pixel and not scaling we would be fine. I'm just trying to understand why it would not remain pristine.

What kind of SD footage do you have - PAL or NTSC or SECAM?

What kind of HD preset (1080i/p, 720p, 23.67fps, 24fps, 25fps, 29.97fps, 50fps, 59.94fps) do you want to use with what software?
