I run a school network wired and wireless with about 20 printers on the network. We mostly run MacBook pros for teacher computers with a few PC’s Most of the printers are HP with one or two other brands, most of the printers are hardwired but there are a few wireless printers on the Wi-Fi too. All printers have a static IP addresses! At all times I am able to ping any of the IP assigned to the printers and I am always able to browse to them via a web browser and can see the printer’s firmware.
Sounds like a perfect environment, right?
Not so, I constantly see the availability of these printer advertisement (Bonjour) go on and off and have not figured out why. The advertisement sometime shows a few of them or some time all of them. If I ignore the advertisement and set it up as an IP printer with HP jet direct it will work for a while then just hang as the advertisement goes up and down.
I cannot figure out whether this is a printer problem (seems least likely) a router problem (Sonicwall NSA 2600), or a Mac issue.
Any thoughts would be appreciated
