Newegg has this $500 monitor available as open box for about $400 shipped:

It has great reviews, here is a very detailed Tom' Hardware review:

I've been watching for a month (a lot less time than I've been waiting for the new mini) and never seen it for under $500 shipped.

Newegg is offering just a 30 day return, but the factory has a 3 year warranty, most of that should still be available.

Meh for that price I'd rather spend another $100 and get a used 30" cinema display or Thunderbolt display. There are deals on Craigslist.

I have a Shimian 2560x1440 monitor that I got off of ebay brand new for $270 2 years ago. No dead pixels, no issues whatsoever. Just not as amazing build quality as the Apple displays or Dell displays and mine had no speakers.

I see why you'd buy newegg, because of warranty, etc. I hear the monoprice monitors are good as well.

With that said, the Planar reviews are very good. But if you're looking to save money you can always get a 2560x1440 monitor for much cheaper. But this is a good middle ground. I'm sure others on here have the same monitor that can attest to its quality.
