Cult 1980s TV show MacGyver is to be remade as a feature length movie, it has been announced.

No stars have committed to the project but film studio New Line says it is looking for "an A-list writer".

MacGyver ran from 1985-92, and starred Richard Dean Anderson from Stargate: Atlantis and SG-1 as an extremely resourceful secret agent.

He frequently escaped dangerous situations by making imaginative use of common everyday household items.

Two made for TV films were produced in the years after the show's cancellation.

The character has since been spoofed in countless movies and TV shows.
BBC.

heh. Can't say I've ever really seen the TV series, though I knew of it.

What say you MacGyver fans?

As a kid, I watched MacGyver all the time and I loved it... but recently, I saw an episode and it was so cheesy. If they want this movie to succeed, they better make it updated and more realistic.

I loved MacGyver way back when. Saw it again recently and I still like it regardless of the cheese factor, in fact that might make me like it more! I just know they'll bugger the remake with a boatload of cgi:mad: thanks hollywood...

MacGyver was too horrible for my taste - cheesy, dated, and tacky.

This will be a waste of money and further proof Hollywood has no original ideas. Like Disney, making sequels and prequels and pre-sequels and se-prequels of Beauty & the Beast and Cinderella. Gag.

^^Yeh I agree if they remake it they should do it w/o relying to heavily on CGI. That would at least keep the spirit of the originals and the loyalty of its fans.

No actors lined up, and no writer yet. Seems like they haven't made much progress since last May.

Would love to see a MacGuyver movie, but only with Richard Dean Anderson on board.
