After reading so many topics about the plastic shell cracking, discolouring, etc, I have began to wonder, whether it's a common problem or just an exception? I am planning on buying the black macbook, because I like it so much but don't want to spend 1500$ on something that will fall apart merely because of poor craftsmanship.
What are your opinions?

More an exception than anything. Folks post on here for problems in excess of the actual problem rate.

My 15-month old BlackBook has been all across North America, about 60 rounds through the loving hands of the TSA with nary a problem. I wouldn't worry overly about it.
