If you start playing an album in the music app, the default behaviour is that the songs play in album order. When you look at the Up Next queue the album songs are there and will play in order. If you go to another song and tap “Up Next” the expected behaviour happens and the song is added to the queue to play immediately next. If you check the Up Next area in the now playing card you’ll see the song you just selected as playing next and then the remaining songs of the original album after that. It’s expected behaviour.

When you push “Play Later” on a song it gets added to the very end of the Up Next area, even after the songs from the original album you started playing. In podcasts “Play Later” only appears as an option once you’ve selected an episode to “Play Next” and then any episodes you click as “Play Later” get added after the “Up Next” selections. You can see in the attached video a comparison between the music app and the podcasts app, with the “Play Later” behaviour in podcasts being my preference and what I feel is expected.

When you’re managing songs or media using the “Up Next” and “Play Later” buttons I feel it is natural and implied that whatever happened to originally be in the queue is less important than the songs you want to hear using “Play Later.” I think the music app should work like the podcasts app.
