Play MIDI files with MacOS

What is a good free app to play MIDI files? It seems that VLC can't play it and Quicktime asks me to download version 7, which seems strange because I have version 10 installed.

You can still download and install QT 7 to play MIDI files. Explanation here of why QT 7 is still available alongside QT X:

I have tried the Mighty MIDI app. Works great.

But... VLC 1.1.6 now supports MIDI on the Mac Even better.
