Hi Everyone

This question may have been asked and answered, but I'm having issues with my media keys. I'm running High Sierra 10.13 on a 2015 Macbook Pro.

When I run Spotify, the Play/Pause, Fast Forward, Rewind (F7, F8, F9) do nothing. I tried running iTunes to see if there was some default shift and they also did not run for itunes.

I used to have Google Chrome, which caused binding issues with Google Play. Those were disabled months ago. With High Sierra I uninstalled Chrome and use Safari exclusively.

My keyboard shortcuts under System Preferences also has the box "Use F1, F2, Etc. as standard function keys" unchecked. To be safe, I've tried checking it and using the fn key as well. No change.

All other special keys work (screen bright, volume, etc), it just looks like the bindings on the play/pause, rw, and fw keys do nothing.

Anyone else with this issue? Any thoughts?

Having the same issue. The update seemed stable for a couple of weeks since installing, but all of a sudden, the following errors are occuring:

  • Volume buttons don't work.
  • Mute button doesn't work.
  • F7,8,9 Play and pause don't work.
  • Also, clicking the apple logo in the menu bar to force quit no longer opens the window to quite apps.
  • About this mac also doesn't open.

These are all the things which were working even after the installation but all of a sudden aren't.

It doesn't just work anymore and it's saddening.

I came across this when researching same problem. Worked for me. from https://forums.developer.apple.com/thread/86221
