I have a bunch of these audio files. Tried the Real player 11 beta but it does not play the audio files. Any suggestions?

*.ra files are really old.Real has been using *.rm for quit a while.
I'd suggest using an older version of RealPlayer under Rosetta.

Well, tried an older version of Real player under Rosetta but still did not work (even after brute force install of Realaudio codec 3.0).

Found out Mplayer plays this file! The Mplayer supports both Realaudio 1 and 2.

Used compiled version of Mplayer found here:

It's an old thread, but this suggestion should help new readers:

Recent versions of MPlayerOSX Extended don't work for me.

Use Audacity to read .ra files, instead. Audacity will load the file, and allow you to play or edit it. You can also export the file into whichever common format that you prefer.

I've told OS X to open all .ra files with Audacity, by default, on this box. It saves time.

Doesn't work

Audacity and real player and my player all fail on a macbook pro running 10.7.2. Audacity gives the error "the file" is a RealPlayer media file.
Audacity cannot open this proprietary format. You need to convert it to a supported audio format, such as WAV or AIFF. So obviously .ra is so out of date that it is basically impossible for me to play the ancient files I've found at:
