I have a Panasonic SD700 camcorder, which saves its HD footage into .MTS files.
I can import and edit these in both iMovie 11 and Final Cut Express fine.
However, VLC player on my machine doesnt seem to play the files very smoothly - almost like it drops every other frame - and the quality doesnt seem so good. Even after I export from Final Cut express into a high quality MOV file, VLC doesnt seem to play it very well.
Im sure its not the actual footage, since they play fine in the iMovie and FCE, and also play fine when converted onto DVD and played back in a standalone DVD player etc.
Are there any other players that will play the raw MTS files well??
I just want to be able to look over the odd clips etc before I decide on which ones I want to edit with in my project.
Also, on another note - is it better to rewrap the MTS clips to MOV or M4V if I want to keep a library of clips on my system/external drive? I want to be able to play back clips now and then, and just keep the RAW mts files for editing purposes. I have read playing back mts files is stressful on the CPU, whereas its better, and easier, to play back mov or m4v files??
