I downloaded some and its probpting me that I need additional quicktime software. What can I use to play it?
 
Some people prefer to use VLC for their videos. It plays just about everything.

But doesn't help system-wide, which Perian does. Installing a third party player, such as VLC, allows you to play videos inside the VLC player. Installing a third party QuickTime Plugin, like Perian or Flip4Mac, usually allows you to play videos in the QuickTime Player, in iMovie, in iTunes, in Final Cut Pro, inside Safari or other web browsers, etc...
