Playing Half Life in Steam via VMWare Fusion Pro Windows 11 on macOS?

I’m hoping someone has a solution to a really niche gaming problem, so here goes

I’m trying to play Half Life (downloaded form Steam), but the mouse control doesn’t work. I’m running it in Windows 11 in VMWare Fusion Pro running on my m4 Mac mini. Keyboard works fine. But the mouse control in Half Life is super super sensitive. It’s unusable.

But since Half Life from Steam doesn’t support macOS, this is my only option.

Has anyone encountered this and know what the problem is and how to solve it? Are there any tips and tricks for Windows gaming in Fusion Pro on macOS?

It’s been awhile but I think this solved my problem when I tried it out in the past.

1. Go to VMware Fusion > Preferences.
2. From the Gaming dropdown, choose Always optimize mouse for games. ...

I play Half-Life natively using the engine from macsourceports.com. Don’t have to jump through the emulation hoop.

I found the solution:

1) In WMWare preferences, turn on "Always Optimize Mouse for Gaming"
2) In Windows mouse preferences, disable optimize mousing
3) In Half Life Preferences, turn on Raw Mouse Input and Mouse Smoothing

Just installed the source port on my 2013 iMac running Catalina. Opposing Force is a little bugged, but Blue Shift and the base game work great.
