So I'm highly considering upgrading my iCloud storage to the 500GB option. I want to put my music library into the iCloud Drive, then be able to play it across my iOS devices. Is this easy/possible? It seems like iCloud Drive was made with photos and documents in mind but they didn't really consider music.....

You could probably put your music in Readdle's Documents or another app called Goodreader. I used to do that with the old iCloud and Goodreader. The experience isn't nearly as good as with Music Match though. Would be nice if the cost of Match would go down, but I'm sure that won't happen since Apple wants us to use Beats. Still, $25 a year isn't bad.

Nope ... they will behave just like normal files ... so no playing in music app or playlist and stuff

iTunes Match is the only way for now
