On my S2 I was able to play music that was on my phone thru my AW and control it from the AW.
My understanding is that ended with S3, or rather the next IOS (4?) Any music had be onboard the watch. I know a lot of people complained. I will buy an LTE AW4 for the extra on-board storage, but are there any signs that we will be able to go back to just controlling music off the phone in your pocket thru the AW instead of requiring content to be stored in the AW to play music?
I haven’t seen anything related to this come up for sometime now.
Thanks. S

I can use my AW3 to control music playback on my phone, this has never changed ?

Yes it’s changed so it’s now more like it was on the older OS (can’t remember which version now)

Not also that both the gps and cellular S4 models come with 16GB of storage now, so you don’t need the cellular one to get 16GB.

Thanks for the replies....Playing devil’s advocate here.
So since it appears I can play music on my phone from the watch which negates the watch’s onboard memory and I would have no intention of activating LTE if I were to have it, would buying an aluminum GPS only watch do the same as a non-activated LTE SS AW?
In another thread where I stated I wouldn’t likely use an AW at all for 3 months a year, I am now even contemplating buying a GPS only AW.
I am in Canada. The base GPS only AW costs just around $700 with Apple care and tax, all in. An SS with AC, sport loop/band and taxes all in is just over $1100. You get my drift. That is a big diff for essentially the same functionality if that’s the case. I love SS and I’m not a huge fan of aluminum AWs and would likely keep an S4 for probably 3-4 years, so only I can make the determination on whether the additional $$$ is worth it to me.
So, what I’m asking, is the functionality exactly the same between a GPS only Aluminum AW and a non-activated LTE SS? (Thinking the 8 g memory bump and no LTE is of no consequence at all to functionality) Is that correct?
Thanks. S
