Is it possible to play a song with iTunes without iTunes importing the song into its library? Thanks!:D

Is this what you're looking for? (iTunes > Preferences)

Can't you just set the defaults to open in VLC player or some other player that plays media files?
That kills the purpose of iTunes, as well as the benefits, like using remote speakers, which VLC can't do.

Oh right. And if you click space bar while clicked onto the file, doesn't a player come up? Does that open it up in your iTunes library when you play it or not?

I suppose I'll just change the file assocations.... that seems to be the simplest solution

ooooorrrrrrr if its one file just use quick view (w/e its called). press space bar on the file. or in finder go to columns view, select the file and click play on the right hand side in the info section. works for videos as well....

When you drag the music file into iTunes, hold down the Command key. This plays it from the current location without copying the file.

Or just click no when it asks you to whether you want to import it into iTunes. It should just show the disc up as a device.
