hi guys,

i'm new to mac but one thing has really suprised me when moving over, my avi files in xvid format for example dont play... now correct me if i'm wrong but the mac is widely considered to be a heavily media oriented computer and as a result you'd kindof expect it to play the most popular video format

anyway, so i went looking for an xvid plugin for qt... one hasn't been made yet?

so what needs to be installed to play xvids as simply as possible and let them work through front row?

dont really want to be installing different players etc to just occomodate different formats, just want it all to "work" - that is apple's slogan after all :)

EDIT: oh yeah, i did read that if you install the divx plugin, that xvids wold be supported... but my quicktime only managed the first 8 seconds of a movie so thats obviously not the way to do it... it installed some really dodgy looking divx player too... but that didn't work either... grrrrrrrrr!

hi guys,

looking for an xvid plugin for qt...

one word: perian

google it
install it
love it

<just install perian, and all your xvid, divx media will play, wmf is an other story, you'll need flip4mac for that>

if you install these two, quicktime player will play almost all media. even in frontrow.

hope that helps, if not, ask a question!

cheers
