iPod touch Playlists Updating

So I purchased a song last night on my touch and put the song in my "new music" playlist on my ipod. But when I synced my touch a couple minutes ago, the song didn't transfer to that playlist in my iTunes.... it's transfered to my library though but not the playlist. I know its easy to just add it now but the point is is that it should add to the playlist.

Is there not playlist communication between iTunes and iPod touch?
