Playstation 2

Hi!
I was wondering if anybody knew of a way that I would be able to back up my Playstation 2 games using my eMac. These would be the CD games as opposed to the DVD games. I tried using Disc Copy howevery the Playstation was unable to read the disks.

The PlayStation 2 will not boot off any writable media (like CD-R) without chipping it. Sorry, there is simply no way round it.

Not correct the latest PS2 will read CD-R's and I believe also CDRWs as well.
But you need to buy a new PS2 to get these features built in.

Wow cool. Do you know why Sony changed this? I thought that they used the limitations to stop people pirating games. Mod chips are cheap if you need them. Personally I havn't modding my Playstation but each to their own.

They probably changed it due to complaints about Audio cd-rs not working.

That annoys me about my XBox as well since I my CD player doesn't have optical out and my Xbox does, so I cannot listen to my CD-Rs through digital out.

Why store it on your Emac if you can modify your Ps2 with a chip and a 160 GB HD? Back up al your games and saves on the HD, this will cut down on loading time!

PlayStation games have a region code (one for Japan, one for US/Canada, and one for everywhere else) in the inner rim of the disc. A standard computer CD reader or writer won't touch the disc rim, which is why copied games won't work without a chip.

In addition to this code, some (most) games have separate copy protection. I don't think Disk Copy makes a perfect replication of the CD, so the PS is most likely failing when it gets to the copy protection check. As for how to get around this, I have no idea.
