i am above to buy the new macbook 2.4 from amazon but i started thinking of buying a macbook pro(the old model)(2.5) which comes with 250(hdd) and 2(ram)....(9400 vs 8600) which one will be better.... since i am tinking in playing some games from steam...

please answer quickly because i need to decide now...

THANKS:apple:

I'd go for the classic MBPro: better value for your money. As for gaming, I don´t think you will notice a big difference between the two - the better processor of the Alu MB plays out with the larger cache of the MBP (IMHO)... plus with the MBPro you get a bigger screen & firewire.

any other opinion.... i heard the gpu have defects only in the 2.4ghz macbook pro model(old)

All the old MBPs supposedly have the defective GPU, however, the 8600 is a lot faster than the 9400. Choose your poison.

The fail rate in 8600 is very small, but higher than average. It is a much better card than the 9400 due to the fact the 8600 is dedicated and will provide better performance gaming.

If you need the added GPU performance, go for the MBP.

If you want peace of mind and can't really warrant any instances where you'd want the dedicated GPU, go for the Unibody Macbook.

But in the end, be happy with your purchase :3.

I had the AluBook then I sold it for the MBP 4.1. Reasons being that the MBP isnt much heavier, had a larger screen, better screen, better GPU, and cheaper to upgrade. The GPU failure is certainly an issue but Apple is giving an extra year of warranty over it and I do not expect to keep the MBP for that long. It is not as bad as it sounds too as there are tons of 8600s out there only a small though higher than normal percentage is failing.

This is really up to you and what you need. There will be contradicting arguments here, so I would base your decision on what you need. If you need FireWire, then go for the MBP. I would also tend to favor the MBP's graphics card over the MB's graphics card. Good Luck.

the new alum MB plays all steam games pretty well, i would suggest getting the MBP, better screen bigger screen, firewire :p
