As this is my first post!

I was looking for some advice please. I'm looking to upgrade my mobile to get a new 3G Handset.

However, I am only interested in a 3G handset which is isync compatible.

Can anyone help?

Thanks.

Dave

PS I am based in the uk.

Thanks for the link, much appreciated.

There does not seem to be any 3G handsets listed there. Is this list kept uptodate? Has anyone managed to find a 3G handest which is compatible?

Cheers,

Dave

iSync hasn't had an update since last summer – I'd imagine though that Tiger will have compatability with a wider range of phones, including 3G. Unless you're desperate for the phone it may be worthwhile waiting on a while until Tiger's released and you can see what the state of play is.

Thanks for that, I thought it had not been updated for a while.

I'm using an ibook at the moment, I'm guessing I will be able to upate that to Tiger when it is released?

With regards to waiting to buy the phone, it's done through the company so it has to be bought fairly soon.

I think I may go for the Sony V800i, as I believe the Sony are more likely to be compatible.

Yep, you'll be able to run Tiger on your iBook – although you'll have to pay for the upgrade, I'm afraid.

Sony Ericsson phones are reckoned to be among the best at syncing with Macs – but I can't vouch for the V800i.

Initiation Ceremony!!

Sounds lovely, I could do with a cheap thrill on a Monday afternoon!

Any SE with Bluetooth is highly likely to be able to sync, but there has been problems, especially the P900 was not very cooparative at first, but Apple/SonyEricsson fixed it eventually... so if you absolutely cannot wait, any SE with Bluetooth should be your best bet... ;)

When someone called davethesailor starts a thread saying 'be gentle with me' and then an initiation takes place...

Well! :D

hehe!

Well I do work at sea, hence the sailor name!

So has anyone had any experience of the Nokia 6630

Looks like the pre-Tiger answer is bad for that question:

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/119183/

There are a few phones not on the iSync list that seem to work (just like there are printers not on the Airport Base Station list that work wirelessly without any special issues), but it is not an effect to be counted on....

Well thanks for all your help anyway guys....

It looks like it's gonna be the 6630 I'm going for. I've always had a Nokia and I much prefer them.

Cheers,

Do you absolutely positively have to buy a 3G phone at the moment?? The 6630 is supposed to be OK, but if you were to hold out for a bit it looks like the up and coming 3G phones will be much better (and smaller). That said the 6630 is a smart phone and some of the new ones don't have the symbian OS. I read somewhere that the equivalent of the 6630 with videocall in the handset will be out in the UK very soon.

Thanks for the tip..... I will try and put it off as long as possible. To be honest, I'm not that enamoured by the 6630, it looks rather chunky.

Cheers,

Dave
