I have used audacity quite a bit on PC, but that was pretty much importing old bootleg cassettes onto the computer to get them on my iPod. This was quite a few years and I haven't messed with it since.

I just installed it on my MacBook Pro tonight and I cannot even figure out where to start. First and foremost is that the drop downs give me no options (ex core audio, built in microphone).

At this point I mainly want to record audio from youtube videos and import it into iTunes. At least until I get familiar with the Mac (and more modern) version.

I can't even figure out where to start. I assume I need to add plus ins, but which ones? I tried downloading LAME and the download goes fine but gives some weird error message when I try installing it.

I have spent the night reading the wikis, but the articles really leave a lot to be desired. I really just need a short and sweet explanation of what I need to do and how to do it.

I appreciate any input on this, so thanks in advance.

I realize this doesn't help with Audacity (I don't use it, I use Cubase), but...

... if all you're importing are 2-channel "analog ins" from a cassette, why don't you try GarageBand?

Bc that’s not not what I am doing. That’s what I was doing ten years ago. On a pc. That did not have garage band.

Right now I am trying to get quality sound recordings of YouTube audio

Is cubase a little more self explanatory?

Post a YouTube URL that provides an example of what you want to download, and I'll give you instructions on how to "get it to your drive".

If you want to record audio from YouTube videos go to Edit, Preferences, Recording! I had to try different things until i found out which device I should use to record direct audio from speakers and not from microphone. I'm gonna attach a photo of my settings!

In reply 3 above, the OP said he is trying to "get quality sound recordings of YouTube audio".

Easiest way is to download the YouTube file directly to his computer using a browser-based extension that will display the various formats in which the audio is available.

I use the Opera browser and an appropriate extension. When a YouTube clip is playing, it shows you all the formats that can be downloaded and allows you to choose the one you want.

Once downloaded to disk, the file can then be manipulated as desired.

I asked for a sample YouTube URL, the OP seems to have disappeared.

I've been following the thread as I would like to download the audio from recorded concerts, I find some 'freestyle' versions of songs are better than the studio album versions.
I couldn't find extensions in Safari or Chrome to let me do this. Any help would be much appreciated.
Cheers
