Hi, I have a 3.1.2 blackrain jailbreak iPhone. Recently I have download an application which required to reboot phone. As usual after it reboot, I try to blackrain it again. (it normally works) As usual again, the phone screen turns into a picture featuring "geohot".

But this time round, the picture suddenly disappear and the phone is still in standby mode. Nothing happen!!

Any suggestion?

but the screen is still in standby screen, can it still be redsnow?

I don't know what you mean by "standby mode"; I know of no such mode for the iPhone. Are you in DFU mode (screen completely black and iTunes detects a phone in Recovery mode when it is plugged in)? Recovery mode (USB + iTunes logo on screen and iTunes detects a phone in Recovery mode when it is plugged in)? Are you in a boot loop (Apple logo on screen)?

Sounds like a tethered jailbreak that blackra1n is having problems booting, perhaps re-download the blackra1n binary and try again? Its possible that its not a boot issue and the OS have deeper issues.

Tethered jailbreakers not being able to boot is becoming increasingly more common. Most and everyone are still on 3.1.2 and have been booting tethered almost w/o issues since Blackra1n release but past month I've been supporting alot of people who're stuck at either the GeoHot (Bilbo...) image or in Recovery mode. Some but very few have fixed it by erasing the LIYB och PLIST files from /library/mobile substrate/dynamic substrate.

The other option requires your iPhone to be fully functional... as a precaution you SSH to /system/library/launchdeamons/ and look for com.SpringBoard.plist. Make a copy of it to your computer. If your iPhone refuses to boot you SSH in to that same folder again and delete the old com.springboard.plist and upload the one that was working previously before your iphone crashed.

I would really appreciate any thoughts on this...:apple:

sorry sorry, the screen i was in is , recovery mode, the sign of a usb cable and a disc..

Hi WhatAmI, you told you supported lots of people stuck at the GeoHot picture, when trying to rejailbreak their iphone. If I cannot boot my iphone again, how can I ssh to it and remove the files you mentioned in /library/mobile ...?

If in the meanwhile you have another suggestion, please let me know, it will be kindly appreciated.

I also wrote a more detailed post here if you are interested:

Unfortunately it sounds like your phone is in an unknown state and although Blackra1n may be doing its thing, theres obviously a problem booting the OS.

In this situation with a 3GS and the new iBoot and without your SHSH blobs, you may be left with the only option left, which is to restore to official 3.1.3

Wait are you on a 3G or a 3GS? I assume your on a 3GS but if you're on a 3G restore to 3.1.3 and use PwnageTool 3.1.5 to jailbreak.

i am on 3gs... allow me to explain my scenario again.. :)

my phone was in a recovery mode status and so i went for blackrain and make it rain again. the phone screen then turn into geohot picture, as i thought everything went smoothly as usual, the geohot picture just disappear and the phone is still in recovery mode when i switch it on again.

and yup, this was what happened, and i cannot access or do anything with my phone...

boonaldo, same here: in my 3gs iphone when i run blackra1n GeoHot picture appears, then after 10 seconds (more or less) it disappears and the iphone looks like shut down. To me it happened that sometimes (I tried so many times) that it would boot again, automatically, but the recovery mode would just appear again...

Try to wait, maybe after a few minutes it will boot and just work. Did you try to wait about 10 minutes, 20 minutes? 1 hour? The whole night? Try...

i tried it quite a number of times, and everytime the screen just had this geohot pic for a few minutes and it will just disappear entering recovery mode again.

i somehow have this feeling of 3.1.3 waving at me though, LOL

turn the iphone off with power and home button, downoload redsn0w load the 3.1.2 ipsw file then untick everything leaving already pwned ticked and follow onscreen instructions and see if that helps

andybno1: I just tried redsn0w a few times. First I ticked the option "boot only", then I tried leaving "install cydia" ticked. In both cases the firmware/kernel are transferred and then I see the animated loading icon in the iphone screen, for about 5 minutes, then I see the apple logo and after a while, I see again the cable+itunes image (recovery mode).

Now I've unticked both "install cydia" and "just boot", there is no option "already pwned" in redsn0w 0.9.2... still the same: animated icon for about 5 mins, then it restarts (I see the apple logo) and finally, again the restore screen :(

Seems 3.1.3 is waving at me too :( but I'll wait before doing anything stupid that I could regret...

Any other ideas?

boonaldo: any news for you? Did you restore to 3.1.3 or what did you do? Me, no developments... I tried to re-jailbreak with redsn0w but it still doesn't work...

Jailbreak for 3.1.3 is sooo aggravating!!! I had to downgrade my husbands after he accidentally upgraded to it. It took me 3 hours total to get the phone back to the way it was before.
